Subject [jira] Closed: (STDCXX-173) [ICC 9.0/Redhat 4 IA64] Tests/Examples fail to link

Andrew Black closed STDCXX-173.
-------------------------------

       Resolution: Fixed
    Fix Version/s: trunk

A manual test with ICC 9.0.031 and subversion trunk head clears (and has for some time, based
on the comments). We don't appear to have any computers available with an older version of
the OS/compiler, so I can't test the pre-8.1 versions of the ICC compiler. Therefore, I'm
closing this as fixed, and we can reopen things if problems are encountered with older compilers.

> Based on comparisions with the compile/link lines used within RCB, it appears to me that
the cause of this problem is that the executables aren't being linked with $(ICCDIR)/crtxi.o
> Adding this to the begining of the LDLIBS macro and removing it from the end of the LD
macro in icc.config appears to resolve the issue on this platform, but I haven't tested it
in other places where it was building.
> I believe this problem may have arrisen from the fact that tests and examples are compiled
in a single step, bypassing the use of the LD macro. This issue only seems to show up in
release builds on this platform, possibly due to optimizer issues.
