I've not used jdb since I almost always use Eclipse to do this, but to
have ant run javac with debug info on, you'll need to find the
relevant <javac> elements and add the attribute 'debug=3D"on"' to them,
to have the javac produce files with debug info. You can then pick up
the generated test jar and run it via jdb?

I've not used jdb since I almost always use Eclipse to do this, but to
have ant run javac with debug info on, you'll need to find the
relevant <javac> elements and add the attribute 'debug=3D"on"' to them,
to have the javac produce files with debug info. You can then pick up
the generated test jar and run it via jdb?

Hi, all,

I have a newcomer question. I would like to browse HDFS source code for the
1.0 release, but the Git repository (git://git.apache.org/hadoop-hdfs.git)
for Hadoop-HDFS project doesn't have this branch, not even 0.20. I can see
a lot more branches from Hadoop-Common project (
git://git.apache.org/hadoop-common.git) including branch-1.0 .

Why is that? Does Hadoop-Common branch-1.0 include all source code for HDFS
and MapReduce projects?

Thanks,

> HADOOP-6864 uses the setnetgrent function in a way which is not compatible with BSD APIs, where the call returns void rather than int. This prevents the native libs from building on OSX, for example.

The hadoop-hdfs.git and hadoop-mapreduce.git are basically dead at

What happens? Is there an exception, does nothing happen? I am curious. =
Also how did you launch your other job that is trying to run this one. The=
hadoop script sets up a lot of environment variables classpath etc to make=
hadoop work properly, and some of that may not be set up correctly to make=
 RunJar work.

{{ViewFileSystem}} incorrectly returns the {{FileSystem}} default values for {{getDefaultBlockSize()}} and {{getDefaultReplication()}}. This causes files to be created with incorrect values. The problem is that the current apis are insufficient for viewfs because the defaults depend on the underlying mount point. These methods need counterparts that accept a {{Path}} so viewfs can resolve the mount point for a path.

{{ChRootFileSystem}} simply extends {{FileSystem}}, and attempts to delegate some methods to the underlying mount point. It is essentially the same as {{FilterFileSystem}} but it mangles the paths to include the chroot path. Unfortunately {{ChRootFileSystem}} is not delegating some methods that should be delegated. Changing the inheritance will prevent a copy-n-paste of code for HADOOP-8013 and HADOOP-8014 into both {{ChRootFileSystem}} and {{FilterFileSystem}}.

TFile currently allows LZO and GZ as compression mechanisms.
It would be good to allow any other compression algorithm among those integrated within Hadoop.

Any suggestions with getting started with eclipse debugging for 1.0.0?

I would like to be able to debug unit tests for my compression codec with s=
ome reasonable debugger, be it eclipse, netbeans, or even jdb.

Harsh recommended Eclipse, so I'm wading in...

When I run "ant eclipse" I get missing file errors. The docs on the wiki ar=
e about using mvn, which isn't supported in 1.x and they include a cryptic =
note that "this" doesn't work, whatever "this" is.

Many of the blog entries describing how to do this refer to the eclipse plu=
gin page above, but the sections they refer to appear to have been deleted.

Eclipse isn't mentioned in The Book at all, and the 1.0.0 docs directory me=
ntions it only in passing in the release notes and changes docs.

If I just try to create a project from build.xml, there appears to be a mis=
sing ivy classpath file.

What is the best way to get started debugging with Eclipse?

Thanks,
    - Tim.

Hi Tim,

Could you try using the branch-1 from the svn-repo/git-clone instead
of a release tarball which may not work in the case of 1.0?

Its a WIP but I also cover some branch building at
http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/QwertyManiac/BuildingHadoopTrunk --
Perhaps it could come useful to you.
