          Priority: P3
            Bug ID: 120727
          Assignee: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
Summary: Program becomes unresponsive when saving files as MS
                    Word 97/2000/XP documents (.doc)
          Severity: normal
        Issue Type: DEFECT
    Classification: Application
                OS: All
          Reporter: katie.wlsn@gmail.com
          Hardware: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: AOO 3.4.0
         Component: save-export
           Product: word processor

I have seen this problem multiple times using Writer version 3.4.1 on both my
home computer (a Hewlitt Packard laptop running Windows Vista) and one of my
work computers (an Acer desktop running windows XP). It does not happen with
all word processing files, usually only with larger files. The files I
typically see the problem with are 3 pages long, created originally as Word
documents, and they contain many "forms" features (text boxes, check boxes, and
drop-down menus). I am opening them in Open Office Writer, and saving them as
Word documents so that I can access them at my other work location, which has
MS Office. What happen is this: after I click the "save" button in the "Save
as" dialog box, the progress bar at the bottom of the screen will stop showing
further progress about 3/4 of the way across the screen, the program will
become unresponsive, and must be shut down by hitting ctrl-alt-del and using
task manager (closing the program by clicking the X doesn't work). When Open
Office reopens and tries to recover the file, it generally is not able to
recover the changes that had not been saved.
