             Bug #: 119254
        Issue Type: DEFECT
           Summary: simple addition fails
    Classification: Application
           Product: Spreadsheet
           Version: OOo 3.3 RC10
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: programming
        AssignedTo: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
        ReportedBy: ab3331@sbcglobal.net

I use a simple formula to add two numbers together. Those numbers are simple
dollar amounts.

$0.75 + $1.50 SHOULD be $2.25
instead I get $2.24.

This software will never make it into institutions with arithmetic like that
and is no better than a child's toy at this point.

I've seen another bug report with an answer that referenced representation of
binary floating point. Sorry, but that's not an answer, that's an excuse.

Do YOU want your bank calculating YOUR bank balance with this software? Or
your paycheck being calculated with it? I know that I don't.

You can't expect an accountant or any other non-programmer type to tell his
boss at the bank or a client that his calculator doesn't add numbers correctly
because of binary floating point representation. He'd be laughed out of the
industry.

Speaking of calculators, they get the calculation right, why can't you?

Oh and for the record, Help:About tells me version 3.3.0, there is no mention
of an RC, no idea what that means. It's build 9567 if that helps any, and
speaking of which you really should make that copy & pasteable.
