Created attachment 77072

gzipped tarball containing crash log and document files that trigger the crash

The following report concerns an OpenOffice crash that is reliably,
consistently, replicably evoked both in NeoOffice 3.1.2 on Mac OS 10.6.8 and in
OpenOffice 3.1.1 on Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.9 (lenny), by attempting to load a
particular .odt file.

The file in question, 111210_belmonte.odt, is distinguished by the fact that it
contains a very large number of tracked (and displayed) changes.
Significantly, creating a new file with all the changes accepted eliminates the
crash. Further details of the various test files that I have created, and the
sequence of events by which I created them, appear below:

111210_belmonte.odt is a file that was saved by NeoOffice 3.1.2 on Mac OS
10.6.8. On attempting to open this same file the next morning, using a newly
started invocation of the same NeoOffice 3.1.2 on the same computer, without
any configuration changes, NeoOffice 3.1.2 crashed.

crash_log.txt is Mac OS's log of this crash. I tried several times to re-start
NeoOffice and to open this file, all with the same result.

I then transferred 111210_belmonte.odt to a Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.9 (lenny)
system, and attempted to open it using OpenOffice 3.1.1. OpenOffice crashed.
On re-starting OpenOffice, I was offered the option of recovery. Again
OpenOffice crashed. Again I was offered recovery. This time the file opened,
and I quickly saved several versions:

1. 111210_belmonte_NEW.odt - exactly the same, unaltered content, saved from
this new invocation of OpenOffice.

2. 111210_belmonte_NEW.doc - exactly the same, unaltered content, saved from
this new invocation of OpenOffice, but in Micro$oft Word format.

3. 111210_belmonte_NEW_changes_accepted.odt - the same content but with all of
the tracked changes accepted.

On attempting to re-open these files, I find that 111210_belmonte_NEW.odt still
reliably crashed OpenOffice and NeoOffice. However, the M$ Word version with
changes tracked 111210_belmonte_NEW.doc and the OpenDocument version with
changes accepted 111210_belmonte_NEW_changes_accepted.odt both open fine.
