Do we know if this is only a 3.3 -> 3.4 issue?   Or will there also be
migration issues for 3.4 to 3.4.1?

Ideally we will have some more detailed testing of the upgrade scenarios.

Do we have any steps that can reproduce the bug?  Something more
specific than "many extensions or heavy customizations"?  Do we think
it is the volume of customizations in a given install?  Or is there a
specific setting causing the problem?  Or could this be related to the
removal of berkelydb and this fix:
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118662 ??
