With the typo fixed and the conversational-style suggestions I think it will be just fine.
 I appreciate and how different ways of speaking are more courteous than others.

I have a different suggestion for the first sentence, but it might not sound right to those
working in a different language culture:

 "It's probably not news to you, but in case you haven't heard, 
the OpenOffice.org project has a new home under the Apache Software Foundation (http://incubator.apache.org/openofficeorg/index.html).
 Some things are different under Apache. ... "

Short, direct statements work well, I think, but you should not forsake the conversational
style you are comfortable with.
