OpenOffice.org 的成立背景

StarDivision 是 StarOffice 的創始公司，八十年代中期在德國創立。升陽在一九九九年收購 StarDivision 之後，於二零零零年六月推出 StarOffice 5.2，並將大部分 StarOffice 的源代碼及相關開發技術移交給自由軟件社區 OpenOffice.org。StarOffice 6.0 和以後的版本都會以 OpenOffice.org 為基礎。

OpenOffice.org 的程序設計簡介

OpenOffice.org 的 API 以 UNO (UniversalNetwork Object) 寫成，所以本身是電腦語言中立的。現在來說，OpenOffice.org 主要是以 C++ 撰寫的，但也能以 Java(TM) 來撰寫。OpenOffice.org 正在尋找義工協助撰寫 C 的 Binding，希望在不久的將來也能以 C 來撰寫 OpenOffice.org。另外，除了無電腦語言的限制外，完成了的外掛模塊也可以直接在不同的操作系統平台上使用。

升陽所公報的「Foundations of Office Productivity in a Networked Age」道出了 OpenOffice.org 的技術進程計劃及 OpenOffice.org 源碼規劃概論。不過因為 OpenOffice.org 是開放源碼軟件，所以 OpenOffice.org 的社區需要負起完成 OpenOffice.org 任務宣言的責任。

公認的計劃包括了大部分技術性與一些非技術性的計劃。這類計劃的領袖擁有投票權。
國際化計劃這類計劃主要是為以非英語為第一語言的人士而設的。好像這個中文計劃，就為大家提供了中文的 OpenOffice.org 說明與教學文件，以及我們所共同關心的信息。
試驗計劃這類計劃是仍在試驗階段的計劃。這些計劃都是由 OpenOffice.org 社區協助的。一般來說，成功的計劃都會在半年以後由試驗計劃轉為公認的計劃。

關於中文計劃

為什麼要搞這中文計劃？很簡單。就是因為我們都喜歡 OpenOffice.org，希望能盡一份力，把 OpenOffice.org 的好處帶給更多國人。我們這中文計劃由志願開發者組成，全部成員都是分文不收的。

近年來，越來越多台灣、香港、大陸、以及分佈於世界各地的華人使用 OpenOffice.org。所以 OpenOffice.org 的中文支援也因華人用戶的需求而不斷改進。自 OpenOffice.org 1.0.3 以來，OpenOffice.org 的中文支援已不算差，但當然，也總會有些不善之處。當我們發覺有關於中文支援的問題時，我們會代表華人用戶反映，或是親自操刀改錯。總之讓 OpenOffice.org 的中文支援更趨完善是我們的成立目的之一，還請各位開發� �€…踴躍加入。
