+
This message is somewhat generic and can be an indication
+of one or more problems. Please read the entire list, below, to determine
+whether you have any of these environment issues:

+
+
Export to HTML Requires Directory Write Access The Export to HTML
+process needs to have access to write a new file or files to the directory
+you have selected. If you do not have write access, you will get the indicated
+message. In addition, Export to HTML tends to create lots of files.
+It is highly recommended that you create a new directory for your output
+to collect all these files and to avoid the write access restriction.

+
+
Not Enough Disk Space You can receive the indicated message because
+you do not have enough space in your home directory.

+
+
File Name Problem You can receive the indicated message because
+you use a space in the file name. During the Export process, OpenOffice.org
+sees the first part of the filename as a directory and sees the rest of the
+name after the space as the filename. Hence, a non-existent object. The solution,
+then, is to not use spaces or other characters that are not allowed in a
+filename. These characters are: %!$#:;

+

+
What is SSH and when will I need it?

+
SSH, or Secure SHell, is a secure connection to a file server, such as OpenOffice.org, via shell (or terminal) access. You require a passphrase to connect, and cannot connect without one. The secure connection also requires that a set of key files match. The key files are generated on your machine: one part passes to OpenOffice.org, and one parts stays on your machine. The passphrase is also chosen at this time. After the uploaded public key at OOo is mated to the private key file on your machine during the login process, you are able to connect to the OpenOffice.org file server. An SSH tunnel like this is used whenever you checkout web pages and source files from OpenOffice.org, or when you update or add new files to OpenOffice.org's file system.

+
What is CVS and when will it be useful to me?

+
CVS, or a Concurrent Versions System, is a file system that allows multiple persons to use files at the same time. It records and time stamps all changes by all authors. This creates an excellent history log of all files in the system, and it flags editors if it finds differences, so they can't overwrite another person's work in the same file without review.

+
How does one access the OpenOffice.org source files for the web pages and the code?

+
Anyone can connect to the OpenOffice.org file system as an anonymous viewer with read-only access. See CVS client setup for more details. To commit new or edited files to the site, there are more steps.

+
Preliminary steps:

+

+
Obtain a copy of the JCA. If you have questions, read the FAQs. (If your question is not answered there, please let us know.) FAX a signed copy and send the signed original JCA by snail mail.

+
From your home directory, generate your SSH2 Keypair (public key + private key), create your passphrase, and learn the path to the public key file set. (Linux | Mac | Windows)

+
Send your public key (id_dsa.pub) file to OpenOffice.org, while your private key (id_dsa) file remains on your machine. Set permissions on the private key so only the owner has read and write access to this file.

+
When the OpenOffice.org support team tells you your key has been uploaded, log in to create a tunnel. Do this in a terminal, then minimize the terminal window to set it aside until you are done.

+
To edit files you must obtain permission from the project where they live. You must be a member of that project. You seek the content developer or developer role status; project owners grant these roles. When the role has been granted, you will be able to see it in the Membership list of that project, and you should have write access to the files on the site.

+

+
Common work routines:

+

+
Open a terminal. Establish a tunnel. Minimize this terminal.

+
Open a second terminal to do your work. If this is your first visit to the project through the tunnel, log in to the CVS.

+
Checkout files from the site.

+
Commit or update edits to existing files.

+
Add folders.

+
Add and commit new files.

+
Remove and rename files.

+
Exit out of working terminal to quit your work in CVS. Type: exit or cvs logout

+
^C in the first shell to close your SSH connection, then exit out of the shell.

+
Inspect your work by visiting the new pages on the OpenOffice.org web site, or by reviewing the cvs mail log.
