But if you really want to try it without Maven, you might start by
looking in the CHANGES.TXT file where you'll see an explicit list of
dependencies:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/odf/trunk/CHANGES.txt

If you download those and get them onto your classpath, that should be
a good start.

But honestly, the Maven POM files are the only detailed, definitive
build instructions, so even if you wanted to build some other way you
would probably need to set up Maven as well, at least initially, so
you can figure out what steps it is triggering.
