Bruce,

I'm assuming that you are using Container Managed Authentication here.
If that's the case, then there is little JSPWiki can do about this.

I experienced the same issue quite some time ago (see: http://www.jspwiki.org/wiki/JSPWiki%20on%20the%20Mainframe#section-JSPWiki+on+the+Mainframe-AuthenticationAndAuthorizationAgainstSAF).
(replace RACF with LDAP)

I ended up replacing CMA with a JAAS Login Module, so we were able to tell our users that
the login failed.
So maybe you need an LDAP JAAS Login Module.
