Subject starting HCATALOG installed using RPM
Date Sun, 15 Jan 2012 20:12:03 GMT
Hi All

Installed HCATALOG using RPM file but failed to start the HCATALOG service….

Started metastore server init, testing if initialized correctly...

Metastore startup failed, see /var/log/hcatalog/hcat.err

[FAILED]

I am receiving the above message when I try to start hcatalog using the
below command

#sudo service hcatalog-server start

The file hcat.err doesn’t have anything written to it and there is another
file named hcat.out. The full content of the file is

hive command involved from /usr/bin directory

Hive requires Hadoop 0.20.x (x >= 1).

'hadoop version' returned:

Hadoop 0.21.0 Subversion
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/hadoop/common/branches/branch-0.21 -r

with checksum a1aeb15b4854808d152989ba76f90fac

I am using RedHat Linux

[root@Blade-5 hcatalog]# cat /etc/*release

Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Carthage)

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga)

JDK version used is

java version "1.6.0_20"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode)

Can somebody explain where am i getting wrong.....

 Thanks in advance
