Sorry for my late reply. This was most popular task among entire ASF tasks and I've received
many similar proposals. I heard that it's possible to have one student per task from Google
guys. So, I had considered breaking this task into pieces but I couldn't find good idea.

You cannot have the students working as a group:

As you know, this is a open source project. If you did already some work on here, Please keep
an eye on this task. 

The transient GSoC experience does not represent much to your career. Making a contribution
to the project you love or Acquiring ASF committership is more valuable.
