Apologies for the incorrect patch, still not worked my way round the site completely.

Regarding left-hand navigation, what did people have in mind ? 
DaveW mentions putting 'Incubator' section above 'About', no problem if this is the consensus, just let me know.
Another Idea might be to also have a new section entitled 'Contribute' or 'Participate' where Mailing List sections and other relevent pages can be grouped. Did you have anything specific in mind David in reference to '..needs improvement in general..'

My review of the document :-

1. Establishment section, 1st para says :

..'By simply lurking on the project mailing lists (and also the general@incubator list and other Incubating project lists) '..

To me 'general@incubator' indicates a mailto: link to the general list but in fact is a hyperlink to /howtoparticipate.html. Maybe rewrite this to say '..and also the general incubator list and..' with 'general incubator' being the hyperlink text.

2. Establishment section 4th para says :

..'also see ASF Proposal Pages for other examples'..

As mentioned by David, 'ASF Proposal Pages' is a hyperlink pointing to 'http://nagoya.apache.org/wiki/apachewiki.cgi?ASFProposalPages'. This page is out of date but eventually redirects to 'http://wiki.apache.org/general/' - last edited by NKB a few days a go is upto date but I see no info regarding links to ASF Proposal Pages here. Can someone find a more suitable link ? (or it should be removed)

3. Establishment section 4th para says :

..'Typically a Candidate is submitted under a message tagged with [[PROPOSAL].'..

Extra '[' needs removing.

The rest of the document seems ok.
