I agree. I think setting up and managing a build process is a monumental
undertaking that someone would need to be passionate about  the build tool
and own the task through to completion (if such a thing exists?). I
wouldn't dictate one build-tool versus another, provided someone was
willing to make the effort.

I strongly prefer ANT. A very bright developer I worked with on my past
project strongly preferred Maven. I was willing to concede and use Maven
because he was willing to make the necessary modifications and own the
build process. That decision worked well for the project.
