I played with it a little bit in the last hour. The result are too unfortunate to show them.
I guess it looked better in my mind than on (virtual) paper.

I just liked the feather on the letter ... 

This logo implies to me "Safety" for Flex ... because 
the feather (Apache) is covering (or protecting) Flex.

As I have mentioned before, "Stability over Philosophy" 
should be the credo the new logo, and Flex doesn't need 
to be reinvented because "Flex is still Flex, and, now even 
better managed by Apache".

Feel free to grab the idea and improve it.
