the less floaty is good. it also adds some terminal emphasis, like, OK! 
the color gradient
suggests ink drying, or perhaps invisible ink being revealed. i like it.

i like #3. wife suggested that the gradient on the word etch have more 
blue at the start.

#4 would be good, too, but i think it weakens the impact of the 
underline. that could be
good because we do not want to suggest too much finality (heh, etched in 
stone).
