Subject [jira] [Commented] (DIRECTMEMORY-40) Pointers merging with adjacent free pointers when freeing.
Date Wed, 28 Dec 2011 11:17:30 GMT

Raffaele P. Guidi commented on DIRECTMEMORY-40:

Also, about this:

"I found more natural to have 2 list of pointers"

it used to be like this a long time ago but then I realized that moving pointers from a list
to another should be "transactional" (not literally, of course) and also causes a lot of garbage
collection. Having switched to a single list approach - with josql on top of it (select *
from pointer where free=true) feels pretty natural and solves both problems

> If one allocates lot of small objects till the buffer is full, and then free those objects,
pointers are never merged together to allow further creation of bigger objects.
