Subject [jira] [Commented] (DIRECTMEMORY-40) Pointers merging with adjacent free pointers when freeing.
Date Thu, 29 Dec 2011 16:03:33 GMT

Benoit Perroud commented on DIRECTMEMORY-40:

Please consider the latest attachment. Running ConcurrentTest* with the OffHeapLinkedMemoryBuffer
does obviously show a bit more GC activity, but nothing really significant.
But if you want to merge free pointers in an efficient way, you can't achieve this using a
single plain List.

> If one allocates lot of small objects till the buffer is full, and then free those objects,
pointers are never merged together to allow further creation of bigger objects.
