As further follow up, installing Graphviz on windows (making sure "dot" is in the PATH) didn't
help.

No "internal server error" in this case, but instead the generated png is an error message
saying something
went wrong with the png creation, with no further details.  Heh.  Anything, this isn't urgent
at all,
as it only seems to get used for the one graphic in "Instance States".
