Look in the log file.

Do a GET against /_active_tasks which will tell you if view indexing is
running as well as progress.

Also note that the current shipping CouchDB (0.10) is rather slow at view
indexing (and that is being charitable).  There are several things you can
do to speed it up.

The version under development (aka trunk) is faster but if you were
measuring time in hours before (as I am), you'll still be measuring it in
(fewer) hours after.
