Sorry about the missing "type" field. When I run that test I get the
error I described in my first message.

It is not a total barrier since I can just nest the array within an
object (which works for me without an error) like:

    {
      _id: "testStream",
      user_id: "jacinto",
      type: "Stream",
      tags: {tags: ["song", "dance"]}
    };
