Further testing showed that 0.8.0 introduced a bug in the protocol
versioning (https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-2818).
We'll get a fix in either 0.8.1 or 0.8.2, and we've reverted the
protocol change from the 0.8.1 candidate.
