Just to be clear about what this entails. The current implementation is
unfinished, which is really reason enough to consider removing it. It
also periodically needs attention as the result of changes elsewhere in
cassandra, and #296[1] is a perfect example of how these won't
necessarily be trivial in nature.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but it's a lot of work that thus far
no one has been self-motivated for.
