Jukka Zitting commented on CB-11:

bq. Could someone maybe detail what was the concern with PhoneGap

As noted in the [Callback proposal|http://wiki.apache.org/incubator/CallbackProposal], PhoneGap
remains a commercial trademark of Nitobi/Adobe, which is why it can't be used by the Apache
project. The project name can also not be "[confusingly similar|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confusing_similarity]"
to an existing trademark in the same sector, which is why a name like DeviceGap that was floated
around earlier was not OK.

I find Callback to be a pretty good name, but that's just me.

See also the [earlier thread|https://groups.google.com/d/topic/phonegap-dev/4tbMpAx_DiE/discussion]
on phonegap-dev@ for various name ideas.

> During the transition of the PhoneGap project to Apache, the project was renamed to "Callback",
due to some concerns with the name "PhoneGap". It seems that "Callback" isn't a great name
either - it's a commonly used term, and so internet searches of "Callback" bring up too many
non-relevant hits.
> Got something better?
