Subject [jira] [Created] (BLUR-17) Replace the existing expert query implementation
Date Thu, 06 Sep 2012 20:14:07 GMT
Aaron McCurry created BLUR-17:
---------------------------------

Summary: Replace the existing expert query implementation
                 Key: BLUR-17
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BLUR-17
             Project: Apache Blur
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Aaron McCurry

The current implementation of expert query through the Thrift RPC requires that the client
be java, because the client has to build the lucene query and serialize it with Java serialization.
This is bad on a number of levels. First it dictates the client has to be java based which
defeats the purpose of Thrift (for the most part). Second, the query objects in lucene 4.0
are no longer serializable.

I was thinking about creating a DSL of sorts that would allow non-java clients to build complex
queries that are not supported by the lucene query parser.
