Sumit Mohanty commented on AMBARI-1830:
---------------------------------------

[~sandeepbaldawa], I was not able to reproduce this. What version/repo you are using? I tried
with "localhost" where no server was listening as well as empty value in ambari-agent.ini
and in both cases the agent started. The log at /var/log/ambari-agent logged the following
error:

{code}
INFO 2013-04-08 10:38:03,965 NetUtil.py:44 - Connecting to the following url https://:8440/cert/ca
INFO 2013-04-08 10:38:03,966 NetUtil.py:58 - Failed to connect to https://:8440/cert/ca due
to [Errno -2] Name or service not known
INFO 2013-04-08 10:38:03,966 NetUtil.py:77 - Server at https://:8440 is not reachable, sleeping
for 10 seconds...
{code}

> Issue :- Doing a "ambari-agent start" with out adding the server name in /etc/ambari-agent/conf.save/ambari-agent.ini,
throws the below error which is difficult to trace.
> Verifying Python version compatibility...
> Using python  /usr/bin/python2.6
> Checking for previously running Ambari Agent...
> Starting ambari-agent
> Verifying ambari-agent process status...
> ERROR: ambari-agent start failed for unknown reason
> Suggestion:- Add a error message like "The agent does not specify the ambari server it
would like to connect to in v "
