Ellen Evans commented on AMBARI-1608:
-------------------------------------

The doc set currently describes setting a custom hostname. Does this mean that what is described
does not work and will not work until 1.3.0? Should the custom hostname piece come out of
the current doc set?

> Consider the following scenario:
> * Custom hostname is created in accordance with AMBARI-1255
> * The custom hostname is not the same as returned with python {{socket.fqdn()}}
> * When calling the {{public_hostname()}} method, the public ec2 URL fails when NOT on
an ec2 cluster
> * The script then uses {{socket.fqdn()}} to return the public name.
> * Ambari uses the public name for publishing links etc, which do not resolve
> This ticket means to fix this issue by deferring to {{hostname()}} when the public hostname
cannot be determined. {{hostname()}} already makes appropriate failure cases to return the
correct value.
