John Speidel commented on AMBARI-1406:
--------------------------------------

One of the use cases driving this issue:

The user wants to associate a host role(host_component) to a set of hosts.
For example, in the Ambari UI, the user selects all hosts that will run the DATANODE role.
The UI will then need to use the API to create a host_component child resource for each host
in the list.

POST api/v1/clusters/c1/hosts?Hosts/host_name=host1|Hosts/host_name=host2...
"host_components": [
  {
    "HostRoles": {
      "component_name": componentName
    }
  }
]

Since we can't use anything but the hostname in the query predicate, the query string could
be very long and exceed the max query string length on the web server.

> For some requests the query string can be very long due to query predicates and partial
response fields. This can result in a query string that exceeds the default web server limit.
 In Jetty, this appears to be ~4000 characters. As a result, some UI requests have been split
into multiple requests.
> To avoid this issue, the API should support inclusion of the query string in the http
body of the request.
