Wait, it may have just hit me.  Would it be something like...

Insert into issues values (#workstation.id#, #hardware.id#) 

Where hardware and workstation have a getId() method?

Could you elaborate a little bit?  I don't see anything in the online
docs that look similar to what you are suggesting.  Maybe you could just

same way - workstation.propertyName, or hardware.propertyName
