mod_macro looks nice; but I do not think it would solve my problem.
Using ErrorDocument would only work if I could use a variable holding the requested URI...
  ErrorDocument 404 http://host/%{REQUEST_URI}
I think that the only solution with ErrorDocument would be calling a script that would return
a 301
