How you got [1] fixed, there's no change in the rule !

For bulk redirection within subdomains I suggest this:

RewrtieCond %{HTTP_HOST} (.+).mydomain.com$
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.mydomain.com/?domain=%{HTTP_HOST} [R=301]
