for .htaccess in your document root this will probably give you a good start:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)maindomain.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !www.maindomain.com
RewriteRule (.*)  /public_html/www.maindomain.com/$1
