It isn't difficult and it will help you avoid incompatibility problems with somebody else's binary distribution that may have been compiled in a way that is incompatible with your exact configuration. Also, why not use the latest version? 2.0.55 is rather old and there are even newer versions in that branch with some rather significant fixes. However, I would recommend going with 2.2.6 or something in that branch.
