I would do this with mod_proxy in a reverse proxy configuration.

A good guide to do this can be found here: http://www.apachetutor.org/admin/reverseproxies

What you need may be as simple as what I have below. There are details in the link above that
may prove useful if this
does not work for you.

Enable mod_proxy, and mod_proxy_http and then add this to your apache configuration:

<VirtualHost *:80>
        ServerName        app.ewd.com
	ProxyPreserveHost On
        ProxyPass        /       http://www.edw.com:8080/
</VirtualHost>
