I've been following your thread... Yours is the classic problem that =
arises when you need to configure apache dynamically at run-time. As =
you've probably realised by now, all apache does at the config stage is =
to read in a long text string (ie, httpd.conf). There is very limited =
opportunity to define anything dynamically and as for logical =
constructs, forget it... :-(

The solution a lot of people use is to write a script (eg, Perl) to =
generate the config file and then call this script at the start of =
apachectl (eg, /path/to/config_script > /path/to/httpd.conf). You then =
have the full power of your scripting language to import environment =
variables, modify them, apply conditional clauses and you can use loops =
to cut down on repetition.=20

It's a bit of an effort to convert from a static to dynamic config =
initially, but once it's working you'll never look back...
