Um, let's back up a moment.  Just because I install something doesn't mean
it's set to be started at boot time.  On Gentoo, for example, I have to
run rc-update to add a daemon to system startup.  On Red Hat the
equivalent is called check[somethingorother].  On MS Windows each package
has its own gadget for inventing the service that runs it.

Before you go removing any packages I'd suggest finding out whether Apache
is set up to start automagically at boot.

If Apache is started and is listening on the expected port(s) then another
thing to look at is firewalls.  I've lost more time than I care to recall
in troubleshooting things that weren't working because I hadn't run
'iptables' to update the network access rules for the box. :-/
