Subject RE: [users@httpd] HTTPS Rewrite Question?
Date Wed, 27 Jul 2005 06:30:07 GMT
Plain text please...

A rewrite rule allows the user to request one URL but be served the content from another URL.
This can be done by proxy and so is transparent to the user (ie, the user doesn't see the
backend URL) or by a redirect (ie, the browser location windown changes to the backend URL).
A typical application of a rewrite rule is when you update a site and want old URLs still
to work.

You can do what you say you want if the user requests https://www.mydomain.com and if you
then proxy him to https://www.mysecureserver.com/mydomian.com (which can even be an internal
server, not necessarily on the internet). As long as the cert has the common name of www.mydomain.com
then it should work.

Is this what you had in mind?

Rgds,
Owen Boyle

Subject: [users@httpd] HTTPS Rewrite Question?

I do not believe this is actually possible but if it is great.

What I would like to do is setup a rewrite rule or something that would https://www.mysecureserver.com/mydomian.com
to look like https://www.mydomain.com.
Would doing this defeat the purpose of having the secure cert or can I do that and if so how?

Thank you
