Not really. They are the same:
# md5 /usr/bin/cc
MD5 (/usr/bin/cc) = 13df95e5e0f1dbf3fc538e83b01dc1c2
# md5 /usr/bin/gcc
MD5 (/usr/bin/gcc) = 13df95e5e0f1dbf3fc538e83b01dc1c2

Even if I add CC=gcc in the environment, I get the same error.
