I hate to spit hairs, but 'seamlessly' and 'as long as', is a=20 contradiction in terms. I do agree that somethings make it easy for=20 you to use spaces, but if you want *always*, use the trusted friendly underscore. =20 Ralf brings up a good point with windows compiles and there i have to=20 claim ignorance, since i only use binaries on windows as the compile=20 tools/environments in microsoft cost money. And I never put windows in production envrironments, but thats another discussion entirely :) jd >=20 > not only is this a pretty nasty gotcha, it's also hard to google = for... >=20 > j >=20 > Date: Mon, 15 Nov 2004 18:15:41 +0100 > To: > From: "Ralf Glauberman" > Subject: Re: [users@httpd] configure fails when space in directory = name > Message-ID: <004001c4cb36$bc73ba70$0100a8c0@MEDIONPC> >=20 > but how would apache compile under windows? just an idea.... >=20 > ----- Original Message -----=20 > From: "Jeff" > To: > Sent: Monday, November 15, 2004 12:48 AM > Subject: Re: [users@httpd] configure fails when space in directory = name >=20 >=20 >>Jackson Pauls wrote: >> >> >>>it's not actually a problem i have... i raise the issue because this >=20 > is >=20 >>>the kind of thing that could seriously confuse and possibly put off >=20 > new >=20 >>>users. indeed, that is how this came to my attention, along with a >=20 > great >=20 >>>deal of incredulity when i suggested removing the spaces! >>> >>>what i don't know is whether or not this is something that i should >>>expect the apache crew to fix... >> >>Its an interesting dilema, but the only good solution, IMO, is to >=20 > never=20 >=20 >>use a space in a directory/file name. windoze considers the space a=20 >>regular character, and taught the world it was so....i think that was >=20 > a=20 >=20 >>very bad lesson for us all to have learned. >>This will only be the first of *many* problems if spaces are used >>regularly with *nix software.
