This looks harmless to me.  It is probably just getting logged with
too high a severity level.  (It should be debug rather than error.) 
Are you seeing any adverse affects?

By the way, the keep alive config stuff in httpd.conf affects only the
server-side of apache and not the proxy-client, to the best of my
knowledge.
