I use an alias /php/ to point to /var/www/html/admin/phpMyAdmin in Apache.

So I get to it from the browser as https://myDomain/php/index.php

If I set $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] to either https:/myDomain/php/index.php or
to the full path it doesn't seem to make a difference.

BUT, I cannot access index.php by typing
https://myDomain/admin/phpMyAdminindex.php (or any variant thereof) into
the browser.
