Subject RE: [users@httpd] website header won't show redirect
Date Tue, 18 May 2004 11:17:02 GMT

The way things are set up, you don't have a redirect. It is simply that http://mwr-europe.com
returns a normal HTML page which consists of frames and then the frames are filled by links
to https://public.mwr.army.mil. This is not a very good way to do it. You need to edit the
config file for the server at http://mwr-europe.com and put something like:

Redirect / https://public.mwr.army.mil

BTW, any reason why the site needs to be HTTPS?

We purchased the mwr-europe.com name and it is supposed to automatically redirect to https://public.mwr.army.mil
and did with earlier files I had uploaded but now it doesn't want to! (Note: page was designed
in Dreamweaver if that makes a difference)
And yes, the address line/location area of the browser only shows the mwr-europe address,
no matter what page you go to within the site.
I receive no errors, and sometimes when I check the source code of the mwr-europe page, the
notepad program doesn't' even launch, but always does in the public site.
The mwr-europe site won't even display the proper title even though this is in the uploaded
script.

Plain text please...
Need more details:
- how did you implement the redirect? (ReDirect? ReDirectMatch,
mod_rewrite?)
pls quote the relevant section from your config.
- define exactly "http header" - I suspect you mean the contents of the location bar in the
browser... Is this so?
- can you identify the site so that we can check it?
- do you get anything in the error_log? access_log? rewrite_log (if used)?

Subject: [users@httpd] website header won't show redirect

I just created a website that is supposed to automatically redirect to a public server. For
some reason, the http header is not reflecting the redirect. When I view the index page, the
header shows the purchased domain name but doesn't show the public http address (redirected
address). When I go further into the site, the http header remains the same as the index page
(no matter what page I'm on) so whenever you refresh a page within the website, it goes back
to the index page. I just need the website to show the correct http header from the start.
I tried to add a refresh/redirect to the public site with meta tags and JavaScript, but it
still won't show the public header.
Hopefully that made sense!
Is this an issue with the server? or my files?
