Subject [users@httpd] webdav problem?
Date Wed, 11 Feb 2004 17:19:54 GMT
I am running apache 2.0.48 on a redhat 9 machine. I have a bunch of
microsoft .DOC files in a directory that apache serves. When i browse to
one, (ex: http://myserver.org/documents/mydocument.doc) sometimes i get the
document and sometimes i get a 404 error. Using a win2k machine with IE6 it
displays fine and i see this in the apache log:

192.6.127.79 - - [11/Feb/2004:11:53:49 -0500] "GET
/snap/Business%20Office/Registration%20Memos/New%20Payor%20Plans.doc
HTTP/1.1" 200 26624

But using a winxp machine with IE6 i get the 404 and i see this in the log:

192.6.127.78 - - [11/Feb/2004:11:53:27 -0500] "GET
/snap/Business%20Office/Registration%20Memos/New%20Payor%20Plans.doc
HTTP/1.1" 304 0
192.6.127.78 - - [11/Feb/2004:11:53:27 -0500] "GET /_vti_inf.html HTTP/1.1"
404 327
192.6.127.78 - - [11/Feb/2004:11:53:27 -0500] "POST
/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/_vti_rpc HTTP/1.1" 404 341
192.6.127.78 - - [11/Feb/2004:11:53:27 -0500] "OPTIONS / HTTP/1.1" 200 3633
192.6.127.78 - - [11/Feb/2004:11:53:27 -0500] "OPTIONS
/snap/Business%20Office/Registration%20Memos/New%20Payor%20Plans.doc
HTTP/1.1" 200 0

I know this has something to do with dav and frontpage extensions? but i do
not wish to use either. I just want to open the doc file for VIEWING ONLY.
I do not want to be able to edit the file on the server. Is there any way
that i can tell apache to stop doing whatever it is doing with the XP
machine. I want it to just display the doc file like any other file.

Thanks
