Subject [users@httpd] Newbie Config Question
Date Tue, 24 Feb 2004 17:09:40 GMT

I am trying to configure my server to use the Metadot portal. I manually
set things up and made the following changes to the httpd.conf file (from
diff):

[root@safer-test conf]# diff httpd.conf *.orig
308c308
< DocumentRoot "/safer/metadot/metadot/html"
---

> DocumentRoot "/usr/local/apache/htdocs"

388c388
< DirectoryIndex index.html index.pl
---

> DirectoryIndex index.html

< # Metadot aliases
< Alias /images/
/safer/metadot/metadot/html/images/
< Alias
/js/
/safer/metadot/metadot/html/js/
< Alias /metadot/
/safer/metadot/metadot/metadot/
< Alias /public/
/safer/metadot/metadot/sitedata/public/
<
< <Location "/metadot/">
< SetHandler
perl-script
<     PerlHandler Apache::Registry
< Options +ExecCGI
< </Location>
<
<

When I restarted the server everything ran just fine (i.e., I could
access all content under the ./metatdot directory). I then shut my system
down and rebooted. Now when I try to get to
www.safer-test.com/metadot/,
I get a 404 error. The info from the logs is

access_log:

127.0.0.1 - - [24/Feb/2004:11:05:47 -0600] "GET /metadot/index.pl
HTTP/1.1" 404
1040 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US;
rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020830"

error_log:

[Tue Feb 24 11:05:47 2004] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not
exist: /var/www/html/metadot

So, the question is, why isn't Apache looking in
/safer/metadot/metatdot/metadot? Shouldn't the

Alias /metadot/ /safer/metadot/metadot/metadot/

directive override the /var/www/html default?

Thanks,

Dennis
