Subject [users@httpd] proxy chaining issue
Date Sat, 28 Feb 2004 11:04:21 GMT
hi to all,
serious problem using apache as a forwarding proxy.

using:
apache-1.3.27-82

on:
Linux version 2.4.20-4GB (root@Pentium.suse.de) (gcc version 3.3
20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)) #1 Wed Dec 17 18:03:22 UTC 2003

chained proxy with directive:
ProxyRemote * http://xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa:8000

issue:
When using the apache proxy without chaining all works smooth with IE
5.5 and NS 7.2.
When using the chained proxy directly all works smooth with IE 5.5 and
NS 7.2.
When using apache proxy chained to second proxy then in both browsers
there will be significant delays up to non responding connections.
In IE there's often "1 object to load" in the status line.

Proxy configuration:
# Proxy Server directives. Uncomment the following lines to
# enable the proxy server:
#
#<IfModule mod_proxy.c>
    ProxyRequests On
    AllowCONNECT 443 563
    ProxyDomain .mydomain_a.de
    ProxyRemote * http://xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa:8000
    NoProxy 192.168.0.0/16 .mydomain_a.de .mydomain_b.de
intranet.mydomain_c.de
    <Directory proxy:*>
        Order deny,allow
        Deny from all
        Allow from 192.168
        Allow from localhost
    </Directory>

    #
    # Enable/disable the handling of HTTP/1.1 "Via:" headers.
    # ("Full" adds the server version; "Block" removes all outgoing Via:
headers)
    # Set to one of: Off | On | Full | Block
    #
    ProxyVia On
    #
    # To enable the cache as well, edit and uncomment the following lines:
    # (no cacheing without CacheRoot)
    #
    NoCache system_a.mydomain_a.de
    CacheRoot "/var/cache/httpd" CacheSize 102400
    CacheGcInterval 8
    CacheMaxExpire 24
    CacheLastModifiedFactor 0.1
    CacheDefaultExpire 1
#</IfModule>
# End of proxy directives.

Anyone out there with hints to this ?

Thanks in advance
ES
