this will work as it was passed on to me by someone on this list as 
well......

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} 152.10\.[0-9]+\.[0-9]+$
    RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
    RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ https://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R,L]

substitute 152.10 for whatever your ip address begins with.
