Subject RE: [users@httpd] Name based virtual server problems
Date Wed, 14 Jan 2004 01:34:43 GMT
Hey Ryan.
I had suggested you SLLOOWWWWLY start adding in config again (including just
the two statements I suggested instead of putting all those IP networks back
in). and you went ahead and and just put your original config back in
including that big mess of an Allow statement you have.

*sigh*

It's very difficult to debug that way. We had to figure out why you were
forboden (forbidden) from seeing that directory so i wanted you to try and
put some simple allow and order statements back in so we could test things
out. Start simple, then get more complex.

Anyway, two things I suggest
1) check your absolute directory permissions and also make sure that the
absolute directory location matches what you have in your .conf file . That
is a common error for getting permission denied.
2) What I really suggest is you go back to your pre-config file that WAS
working, then read the apache documentation on apache.org that is pertinent
to 1.3 version you are running, then slowly start adding in the config
statements you want (after reading the docs) and you'll definitely get your
problem solved. Most everything that has been suggested to you came
straight from the docs.

Good luck and happy studying!
Ben Yau

  Ben, I put this diretive in and it tells me that "order" is not allowed.
All I did was copy and paste from my existing conf file.

  NameVirtualHost 172.20.10.138:80

  <VirtualHost 172.20.10.138>

  ServerName www.ddbchi.com

  DocumentRoot /YellowTipWS/htdocs/ddbchi

  </VirtualHost>

  <VirtualHost 172.20.10.138>

  ServerName www.cultureddb.com

  DocumentRoot /YellowTipWS/htdocs/

  Order allow,deny

  Allow from 172.20.0.0/255.255.0.0 172.90.0.0/255.255.0.0
172.36.16.0/255.255.0.0 172.36.20.0/255.255.0.0 172.37.16.0/255.255.0.0
172.37.20.0/255.255.0.0 172.38.16.0/255.255.0.0 172.38.20.0/255.255.0.0

  Great.. Now that it starts you can add back in your Order,Allow
statements.
  Start small and slowly work your way back to the IP config you wanted.

  Try

  Order allow,deny
  Allow from all

  first.

  Make sure to check your config syntax each time and from there you should
be
  able to do the rest on your own. Make sure to read the apache
documentation
  on the config files. It will give you a lot of info on how to put
together
  your http.conf . Since you'e on Apache 1.3 go here:
  http://httpd.apache.org/docs/
