Yes.  You must make certain the path to the gcc compiler is in the shell variable for root.
 In other words, if you are using ksh or bourne shell /bin/ksh or /bin/sh the PATH in your
.profile should reflect the path to your gcc compiler, presumably "/usr/local/bin" or "usr/local".

Then run # /usr/local/apache/bin/configure  or # ./configure and apache should compile with
the gcc compiler.
