Two thoughts, that may or may not be relevant:

1: Have you enabled Windows filesystem compression on those files or the directories in wich
they reside? If you have, Windows has to decompress the files every time someone requests
them, wich of course demands more CPU.

2: Do you use an AntiVirus program, and is it scanning those files when they are opened for
reading? If it does, of course that demands more CPU.
